Police Brutality Undocumented Client
We are proud of the result of a settlement we recently obtained for one of our clients, an undocumented man from Mexico.
Our client was inside a car that was pulled over by a police officer at 2:00 a.m. As it turned out, three Hispanic men had just robbed a junk food restaurant in the neighborhood and there were precisely three men inside of this vehicle. The police officer stated that one of the men was reaching for a gun and that’s why he fired two shots, wounding our client.
They took our client in handcuffs to the hospital where he underwent emergency surgery to save his life.
However, no weapon was present in the vehicle and these three men were on their way home from work and had nothing to do with the robbery.
Our client hired a prominent law firm to defend him. Prior to the trial, these attorneys explained to him that since he was undocumented he should accept the $250,000 offer made to him by the Federal Court.
➡️ He decided to check with Liga De Justicia. Our attorney advised him of his rights and we adjourned the trial. After preparing ourselves we advised the client to reject the numerous offers that were made to him. The case settled, after jury selection, for $1,500,000, or 6 times what the other law firm told him he should accept.
